After the cost of fuel, insurance premiums are the biggest outgoing motorists face.
In the current economic climate everyone is trying to save money. Insurance premiums are rising steadily and drivers are looking for alternative ways to cut back on their monthly outgoings. But is it possible to save money and be kind to the environment at the same time?
Currently there are over 11 million drivers around the world using LPG converted cars.
LPG converted vehicles are around 75% cleaner than petrol and around 90% cleaner than diesel.
Not only do converted vehicles significantly reduce your carbon footprint by around 20% they also save you big bucks on your fuel costs too. LPG gas is the most widely available alternative fuel in the UK with around 1,476 refuelling sites available.
So why aren’t more people switching?
It is a common held belief that LPG cars are more expensive to insure than standard petrol or diesel cars, but this in fact is not the case.
The LPG Association conducted a survey which showed that the vast majority of the UK’s top insurance companies would not charge higher premiums for converted vehicles.
As long as the conversion is carried out by an UKLPG (the trade association for the LPG) registered installer and there is an LPGA certificate with the car there is no extra cost.
Provided that your car is in relatively good condition it is possible to convert most cars to LPG from around £1,600.00. However if you are looking to make long term savings, investing in a smaller LPG converted vehicle could be the answer for you.
These vehicles all come under the group one insurance which means that they are very cheap to insure, but this is not the only financial benefit they offer.
The Citroen C1 for example is the cheapest small city car around. You can fill the tank of a Citroen C1 up for as little as £16.00 and that will run the car for up to 290 miles.
Road tax is only £10.00 a year on this model and if you live in the London area you will be exempt from the congestion charges which could save you £8.00 daily...(£10 a day from December 2010)
It has been announced that further funds will be provided to implement congestion charges in other major cities around the country. Motorists could be set to pay around £1.34 a mile, but if you are the driver of an LPG converted vehicle it is not something that you will have to worry about.
Not only are there economical benefits to using LPG, it’s also quick, easy, clean and safe to use. Drivers enjoy quieter and smother running vehicles with longer engine life whilst lowering their emissions and doing their bit for the environment.
So why not see if you could save money by switching to LPG?
